Our belongings — what do they really mean to us?

A YouGov survey commissioned by Cityvarasto explored Finns’ relationship with belongings, self storage and moving. Over 1,300 respondents. A nationwide sample across Finland.

Belongings can be a burden — but also a source of joy: key findings

52 %

feel they own too many belongings. Among women, the figure is as high as 62%.

48 %

say the amount of stuff makes everyday life in families with children heavier than it should be.

42 %

say nostalgia is the strongest emotion their belongings evoke.

report that at least one room in their home has lost its original purpose because of belongings.

30 %

say they need more space for everyday life — one of the most common reasons for planning a move.

say belongings cause arguments at home at least once a month.
